Nassau: Exuma
This was a short trip but one of those really good ones, the kind that makes you feel free and strikes all your senses with the most amazing shades of blue hues and promising adventures.
What did I do?
Well, I didn’t want to over-schedule myself in too many activities like I would normally do because this was supposed to be a resting trip as well, so pretty much the first day I spent it walking around the beaches near my hotel, which was 15 minutes away from Nassau downtown by walk; and yes the beaches are beautiful along that coast but I am not a fan of beaches located near main roads or cruises docks, too much pollution and contamination.
For lunch I went to Fish Fried because the locals kept recommending this area to experience the local cuisine and try their famous conch salad, they are all about those creatures, so much that I ended up bringing a shell to New York.
Fish Fried is a collection of stands, bars and sit-down restaurants on Paradise Island. In 1969 the location was christened by West Indian tribes as Arawak Cay, but the area remains widely known today as “The Fish Fry.”
At night I went to the Skybar at the SLS Baha Mar, where I had dinner, enjoyed the weather and relaxed for a bit before heading back to my crib.
As the only rooftop lounge in New Providence, Skybar boasts one of the finest views in The Bahamas. It’s open-air, ivy-covered pavilion is perched above SLS Baha Mar. Skybar provides an idyllic oasis to take in the sun and enjoy impeccably fresh cocktails. When the sun sets on the island paradise, the pulse of Skybar beats even louder, stirring a seductive energy, aroused by world-class disk jockeys and the glamour of SLS Baha Mar’s tropical wonderland.
For the following day, I booked a speedboat adventure via GetYourGuide, with lunch at Margaritaville (not my best meal but it was all about being in that area island) and access to Paradise Island. Would I do a boat ride like this again? Probably no (it was fun though) but having access to Paradise Island was a great deal. The public beach there, cabbage beach was absolutely breathtaking and quiet (at least during the dates I was there).
Cabbage Beach
I booked my next seriously cool tour with Viator. I have to highlight that is a bit expensive but the organizers make sure it worth every penny. This tour is a 9 hours day pass at a private island in the Exuma Cays with a stop at Iguana island (I believe that is the name of this cay) to feed iguanas. They plan everything to the dot, from picking you up at your hotel, to sail to the cays in a speed boat (sit in the front for a little adrenaline boost), to feeding pigs, feeding rays, feeding sharks, feeding you and doing snorkeling. It worth the money, I had a blast.
At night? A super fun Hibachi dinner at the Meliá and drinks at the lobby!
The next day?! Well, my flight back to the angry New York cold weather…
