AW17 reflects the divisive spirit of our times: entitled Love and War, the collection references militarization, protest and revolt, mirroring the current political frustration, yet trying to show a sense of optimism. Here, the protest manifest as peaceful resistance, opposition to violence, it's a militia, a civilian military, strengthned by the unity of the people and their protection arises an opportunity to create something beautiful, and a strengthened spirit of community.
At the design level this translates into a sublimation of protest inspired gear, elevating the concept of protective and functional clothing and inserting codes for love and compassion through color and softness, balancing the underlying anger.
Military references are seen in napoleonic inspired epaulettes, sharp tailoring in vests and coats, that feature brushed wools and render the typical Robert Geller worn in, aged, romantic look.
